Hours of Service to GSUMC

If Jesus walked through the doors of our House of Worship next Sunday, what would he think?
Would he feel welcomed and want to return? Would he be proud of this "house?"
Or would Jesus wonder why we have allowed it to become cluttered and dirty?
Would he wonder if we treat our faith as we treat our building?
Part of hospitality is creating a warm, clean, welcoming environment. We never know when Jesus will walk through the door as our next guest. It is very easy to become accustomed to cluttered areas, dirty walls and carpet, old unused equipment sitting around, and a general state of deterioration when you see it week after week. We need to look at our church campus each week with fresh eyes and make sure it is welcoming to every guest that walks in the door.
At the January GSUMC leadership training all the leaders of the church were asked to tour through the rooms of the Worship and Activity Centers as if they were seeing them for the very first time and then write down their impressions of each room. The list of items created from that tour was then prioritized.
In anticipation of our guests during Holy Week, the Trustees and Church Council have worked hard to maintain our facility and bring a more welcoming atmosphere to Good Shepherd; however, they cannot do it all. We need the entire church family to come together and help transform our church. The Council has set aside the week of March 15-20 as a 1,000 hour work week in service to GSUMC with volunteer opportunities for all ages and abilities.
It is our hope that you will be in prayer and give a gift of time to our house of Worship. The Trustees will have a list of priority tasks for us to complete and March 20 has been set aside as the official "paint day," so all volunteers will have plenty of guidance in what needs to be accomplished. It takes all of us working together as grace extenders so guests will feel our love of Jesus and know they are welcome. |
